Durant was the pilot of Black Hawk Super Six Four that enemy forces brought down in Mogadishu, Somalia, in 1993. The tragic and trying event and his subsequent 11-day captivity in Somalia saw Durant return stateside safely. None of his crew survived, however.

Durant’s heroism is immortalized in the book “Black Hawk Down” and an Academy Award-winning film of the same name.

The pilot and author will address attendees of the Longhouse Council’s annual¬†Friends of Scouting event, called Boypower. Watch the video below to learn how council leaders believe Durant’s ability to stay prepared in any situation dovetails with the spirit of Scouting.
