Montalbano, who has served in several senior leadership roles at NASA, including leading programs supporting the International Space Station and human spaceflight operations, embodies the spirit of leadership, perseverance, and service that Scouting seeks to instill in every young person. He is also an Eagle Scout, Scouting’s highest rank, and a lifelong advocate for STEM education and exploration.
His appearance highlights the growing strategic partnership between Scouting America and NASA, which is designed to inspire young people to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics while helping develop the skilled workforce needed to support America’s future in aerospace, innovation, and advanced technology.

Leadership Heights is one of the National Jamboree’s signature programs, bringing together distinguished leaders from business, government, science, technology, and public service to share insights and inspire the next generation of innovators and changemakers.
Throughout his career, Montalbano has overseen some of the nation’s most significant human spaceflight initiatives. He previously served as International Space Station Program Manager and has held leadership positions responsible for advancing NASA’s human spaceflight operations, low-Earth orbit initiatives, and international cooperation in space exploration. He is also a recipient of NASA’s Distinguished Service Medal and numerous other honors.
The partnership between NASA and Scouting America comes at a pivotal time for the nation. As NASA advances ambitious goals in space exploration and technology development, the demand for scientists, engineers, technologists, and skilled problem-solvers continues to grow. Together, NASA and Scouting America are working to expose youth to hands-on STEM experiences that spark curiosity, build critical-thinking skills, and help prepare them for careers that will shape the future.
From robotics and engineering to space science and exploration, Scouts participating in the National Jamboree will have opportunities to engage with STEM concepts that connect directly to the challenges and opportunities facing the next generation of innovators.
