Music, civic engagement, living history, and leadership experiences highlight official Scouting America celebration of the nation’s Semiquincentennial
GLEN JEAN, WV (July 29, 2026) – Scouting America today welcomed thousands of Scouts, leaders, volunteers, and guests to the Americana Extravaganza, the organization’s official celebration of the United States of America’s Semiquincentennial, a signature celebration of patriotism, citizenship, and American heritage during the 2026 National Jamboree at the Summit Bechtel Reserve.
Held at the Rex Tillerson Leadership Center, the Americana Extravaganza brought together participants from across the nation to honor the ideals that unite Americans and the values that have guided Scouting for more than a century. The event combined live music, civic engagement activities, educational exhibits, interactive experiences, and leadership conversations designed to inspire Scouts to reflect on America’s past and their role in shaping its future.
“America’s 250th birthday is an opportunity to reflect on the principles, sacrifices, and aspirations that have guided our nation for generations,” said Roger Krone, president and CEO of Scouting America. “The Americana Extravaganza reminds us that citizenship is more than a merit badge requirement, it is a lifelong commitment to serving others, strengthening communities, and contributing to the common good.”
Throughout the day, Scouts experienced events and performances highlighting the nation’s rich cultural heritage and traditions that contribute to the American story.
Commitment Wall Encourages Civic Engagement
One of the most meaningful experiences of the festival was the Commitment Wall, where Scouts and Scouters were invited to make a personal commitment to leadership, citizenship, and service. Inspired by the courage of the 56 signers of the Declaration of Independence, participants reflected on how they could embrace the legacy of the last 250 years and help ensure the success of America’s future.
Digital Time Capsule Captures Visions for the Future
The Digital Time Capsule invited Scouts and Scouters to record short video messages describing how they plan to lead and serve their communities over the next 50 years.
Participants shared their vision for America’s future, offering ideas about leadership, service, innovation, and civic engagement. These recordings will be preserved as part of a digital archive designed to inspire future generations.
Fireside Chats with Civic Leaders
Scouts participated in small-group Fireside Chats with current and former mayors, legislators, school board members, council members, and other community leaders from across the country. These discussions provided unique opportunities for Scouts to learn directly from public servants about leadership, public service, civic responsibility, and ways to make a positive impact in their hometowns.
Freedom 250 Mobile Museum Brings American History to Life
Scouts explored the Freedom 250 Mobile Museum; a traveling exhibit that brings the story of America’s founding directly to communities nationwide. Through immersive, interactive displays, Scouts experienced the remarkable struggle for independence and gained a deeper understanding of the events and individuals who shaped the United States.
Living History Experience Connects Scouts to the Revolutionary Era
Adding to the educational experience, Scouts interacted with members of the 1st Pennsylvania Reserve Volunteer Corps Field Music Venture Crew 42 from Gettysburg and Maytown, Pennsylvania. This colonial living-history exhibit showcased period uniforms, equipment, and musical instruments from the Revolutionary War era, giving participants a hands-on opportunity to engage with America’s founding history and learn from dedicated historical interpreters.
Celebrating the Past, Inspiring the Future
The Americana Extravaganza was designed not only to celebrate America’s first 250 years but also to encourage Scouts to think critically about the next 50 years and beyond.

The Americana Extravaganza serves as a cornerstone event of the 2026 National Jamboree, bringing together the themes of American heritage, civic engagement, leadership development, and service in a uniquely Scouting experience.
